The fabric of this wedding dress was a gift from an Indian Prince, the Thakur Sahib of Rajkot, to the wife of the Headmaster of Highgate school as a token of his gratitude for her to kindness to his younger son, who was a pupil at the school.

When his son contracted tuberculosis she visted him in hospital until his death. She kept the gold sari for her daughter to have made up into a wedding dress. The bride recalled the splendor of the dress when she was 'married on a November day of pale golden sunshine'. She wore it with a cap and veil purchased in Paris.
