The Athens Drive-in was transformed Saturday into a scene from the 1950s, complete with decorations, classic cars and hairstyles. Kyle Thompson and Samantha Harmon said "I do" Saturday in front of friends, family and a giant movie screen.

"If you know her and her friends, this was expected," said the bride's father, Jimmy Harmon. The bride grew up around classic cars and even owns a few classic Volkswagens. Her love of cars and rockabilly fell in line with her fiancé, who loves classic cars as well - and even owns a '55 Chevy. "We wanted something different," said Thompson. "I wanted a movie to go with a car show, and she wanted rockabilly so we combined."

At 5 p.m. the bride walked down the aisle wearing a strapless white dress trimmed in red. The groom stood in front of the giant movie screen wearing a red and white pinstripe suit.

After the ceremony, the couple mingled with family and friends during a reception on the grounds. And at 7 p.m. "American Graffiti" played on the big screen.

"I appreciate the way things were in the '50s, and he loves cars, so it all fit together pretty well," Samantha said.

The groomsmen wore black pants with white shirts and skinny black ties, while the bride's attendants wore red, tea-length dresses with black Mary Jane's and '50s-styled hair.

"She marches to the beat of her own drum," said her mother, Sandra Harmon. "She's happy."

The couple decorated the venue with '50s style invitations and programs, vintage coolers and drinks, and memorabilia, all set against a backdrop of the movie screen and rows of classic cars.

"They were a little nervous at first because it was different," Samantha said about her parents when she first told them she wanted to get married at the drive-in. "But it just makes sense."

"For Samantha, this is perfect," said her mother. "This is more her style, not a church wedding."After the ceremony, Thompson said his life now feels "complete.""It feels good," Samantha said. "I'm happy to be Mrs. Thompson."
