Taipei, Sept. 24 (CNA) For people who may not have the time or money to travel to the Middle East but still want to sample that region's exotic culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has launched a touring exhibition in Taiwan that offers such an opportunity.
As part of an effort to help people in Taiwan better understand the rich cultural heritage and lifestyles of West Asia, the MOFA has mounted an outdoor exhibition on the Middle East, Turkey, Russia, and Mongolia in areas near major shopping plazas.
At the launch of the exhibition, MOFA's Vice Minister Thomas Hou said Saturday in Taipei it is a fun opportunity for everyone to learn more about foreign cultures. Traditional clothing, art and craft, and calligraphy are on display, while the entertainment includes Arabic belly dancing, Mongolian-style soft-bone skill, Russian folk songs, and Sufi spinning.
Noting that the Middle East is one of the world's oldest civilizations and home to major religions, Hou said its diverse cultures and scientific achievements are worth exploring. The event, attended and co-organized by representatives of 22 different agencies, can also serve as a forum for local people
